President Joe Biden Arrives in Cambodia to Join ASEAN Summit

PHNOM PENH: This Saturday morning, 12 November 2022, US President Joe Biden landed in Cambodia to join the ASEAN Summit.

He will be taking part in the 10th ASEAN - US Summit which will be held at the Sokha Hotel, Phnom Penh at 5pm today.

Earlier this week, there was a message that went viral making false claims that US Security Forces had asked the Cambodian government for the right to shoot any bystanders caught using their phones to take pictures of the US Presidential Convoy.

Spokesperson Khieu Sopheak confirmed to EAC News by telephone on Wednesday evening, 9 November, that US security forces had not made such a request.

“Such a thing does not exist. This information is untrue. Even if the request was real, it is doubtful that we would agree to it. Usually, the safety precautions of the US delegation have been implemented and everything will be in order,” he said.

The Royal Government has prepared more than 10,000 joint forces to patrol and protect the streets of Phnom Penh where visiting delegations will drive through, and particularly around the Sokha Hotel where the ASEAN Summit is primarily being hosted, in order to secure the safety of both national and foreign delegations attending the Summit.

President Joe Biden will visit Cambodia from 12-13 November to attend the East Asia Summit and the annual US-ASEAN Summit. The US President will then attend the G20 Summit from 13-16 November in Indonesia.
